Purchase Your Laptop

If you have declared teacher education as your major, if you are a transfer student, or if you have enrolled in an introduction to education course, you will need to purchase a required Apple laptop computer.

The recommended systems are available at Ball State University's Technology Store at discounted prices. The machines listed below meet the required system specifications for Teachers College. To facilitate our ordering process and to help ensure that we will have the desired number of machines available at the right times, please help us keep our inventory current by using My Request and choosing the computer that you are most likely to buy. There is no obligation. This request system helps us ensure that we have the correct number of machines available at the time of your orientation visit or projected purchasing date. This request does NOT guarantee availability.

The computers purchased at the Technology Store are bundled with Apple's three year extended hardware warranty that will protect your new laptop from mechanical failure for three years. This warranty also includes three years of phone support from Apple (1-800-APL-CARE). This warranty will NOT protect your machine against accidental damage caused by dropping, spilling liquids, or general mistreatment. You will need to purchase accidental damage insurance to protect against those kinds of damages.

The discounted price for the recommended system is available on campus at BSU's on-campus store, located in the Technology Center in Bracken Library and at the online Apple Store for Education.

Everyone is welcome to visit the iCare Corner (north end of the first floor of the Teachers College building by the elevators) if you have questions about these computer packages, the repair process or support services offered on campus. Demonstration models are also available at the iCare Corner. 

The following models are recommended for Teachers College programs.  The 13" MacBook Pro option 1 suits the needs of most students

The following models are also available in the Technology Store but are not part of the recommended Teachers College Systems.

-Apple Protection Plan (APP): protects hardware against defects or malfunctions for either one or three years, DOES NOT PROTECT AGAINST THEFT OR ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE (i.e. liquid spill or a drop / fall) 
-Wireless Card: connects to an Internet Service Provider without using Ethernet or phone lines in an are where Wireless Internet is available (free across BSU campus) 
-Bluetooth: connect to wireless devices such as cell phones, cameras, keyboards, etc. 
-Integrated iSight Camera and microphone for video conferencing and recording 
-Adaptations for the visual and hearing impaired 
-8x Double-layer SuperDrive - CD burner and reader; double layer DVD burner and reader
